FAQ
What's new in DMB and DVB-H Mobile TV?
DMB and DVB-H no longer use the mobile phone network alone. Signals are transmitted over the broadcasting network, i.e. over radio waves. This is why we refer to it as Broadcasting Mobile TV. With UMTS Mobile TV, what is referred to as streamed content is transmitted to each user, and the user has to share a limited bandwidth with others. DMB and DVB-H transmits the signal continuously like terrestrial TV, which provides faster and improved reception. Your mobile provides the ideal medium for this since you always have it with you. You do not need any other equipment apart from your DMB or DVB-H mobile phone to receive Mobile TV.
What does "Mobile TV Anywhere" actually mean?
It means that Mobile TV Anywhere can be watched everywhere where DMB or DVB-H programmes are broadcast. Mobile TV kicked off in Germany to the fanfare of the FIFA World Cup. Thirteen regional media institutes gave Mobiles Fernsehen Deutschland GmbH (MFD) the transmission bandwidth required for this. The TV and radio programmes transmitted could initially be seen and heard in the twelve FIFA Word Cup cities. During the process of expanding the network other major centres will also be covered, so that you will be able to enjoy mobile radio wherever you are, whether at work, on the train or in a taxi.
Will my Mobile TV phone need more power, and will I have to charge it up more often?
The low frequency bandwidth used that provides good reception, means that your phone will use little power. This means that you will not have to recharge the battery on your Mobile TV phone any more than a normal multimedia mobile.
Will the right mobile phones be available when digital Mobile TV launches?
Samsung and other mobile phone manufacturers are supplying the right equipment for the start of the FIFA World Cup.
How much is it going to cost?
The price structure is similar to what you are used to for normal mobile phones: You should sign a contract with a supplier for the hardware which contains a registration and monthly charge for watching Mobile TV.
